Goals Get You Going By Les Brown

Goals Get You Going by Les Brown

Goals give you a purpose for taking life on. People who live without goals have no purpose and it is obvious even in their body language. They are on permanent idle, they slouch, they list from side to side. Their conversations dawdle. They telephone you: “Hey, I’m just calling. I wasn’t doing anything, so I thought I’d call you.” Well, don’t call ME. I’VE got things to do.

Many people just muddle through life. They don’t read informational material, they don’t even pay attention when they WATCH television. If you ask them what they are watching, they mumblemouth, “Nothin’, I’m just lookin’.”

What are your goals for your career? For your relationships? For your spiritual life? Develop a schedule for the next month, the next six months, the next year, five years and ten years. Write it all out.

Let’s take one of the most common goals: You want to make more money. If that is your goal, then take some practical steps toward realizing it.

First, determine specifically how much money you want to make. Then, double that amount and make THAT your goal. Even if you don’t reach the higher amount, you will probably still find yourself making more than your original goal.

Second, decide the amount of energy you are willing to expend to reach your goal. How many hours are you willing to work a day? How many jobs are you willing to hold down? What sort of work are you willing to do?

A third step in this process is to develop a practical plan of action and get started immediately. Chart out where you want to be in relation to your goal in the next month, six months, one year, five years and ten years. Get started today. Go apply for that second job NOW! Go enroll in that career training program NOW! Ask for that raise NOW!

And finally, make sure that you have all of this written down so that you can review it every morning and every night and envision yourself taking these steps, DOING THEM and SUCCEEDING!

Goal Setting

Goal Setting

Happy New Year! For most people, this is the time for making changes and choices to improve their lives. However, approximately 80% of people are unable to follow through with their newly-set goals. Use the following simple steps to help you see the change you want to make in your life this year:

1. S.M.A.R.T Goals

· Specific – Be very specific when you set a goal and make sure that it is something that you want badly enough to motivate you to do whatever it ethically takes to achieve it. This includes investing in yourself to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. When you are specific, it forces you into action, manages your priorities and time to achieve the results that you expect.

· Measurable – Plan and start your action steps whether it’s by hours, weeks, dollars, or whatever. Your goal should be measurable so that you can see exactly how much you are advancing.

· Attainable – Your goal should stretch you and take you out of your comfort zone while being attainable.

· Realistic – Attainable goes hand in hand with being realistic. To lose 50 lbs. in 6-12 months is realistic. Be honest with yourself in your planning and evaluation.

· Timeline – Have a timeline or time frame as to when you want to achieve your goal. When there’s a timeline of beginning and end, you are more likely to be able to break it down into actions and work more diligently without procrastination.

2. Break down your goal into long and short term goals. Then, work on one goal at a time with determination and intense focus till that goal is achieved.

3. Write down and visualize your goal. To do this, use all of your senses and get specific. Imagine that you have already achieved your goal and write down what you see and feel. If you can visualize it, you can create it.

4. Find a buddy, friend, coach, or a trainer to work with you by not only supporting your, but by holding you accountable as well.

5. List all of the benefits you will enjoy and how your life will change once you achieve your goal.

Whatever your goal, plan how you are going to reward yourself once you achieved it. To your success!

What Do You Want

What Do You Want? by Jack Canfield
People who have achieved their goals knew what they wanted in the first place. They decided what to go after, and they went after it. One of the most compelling reasons why people do not get what they want is that they never decided what they wanted! They never defined the desires of their hearts in complete detail.

Why don’t you know what you want? Why isn’t it spelled out in detail in your mind? Most likely, it is because you have lost touch with the desires of your heart. You were probably taught that you couldn’t have whatever you wanted. You were probably taught that it was more important to do what made other people happy. Seeking your happiness was considered selfish, so you learned not to define your happiness. Now, you find yourself completely unaware of what your preferences are, how you really want to live your life, and what your goals are for your life.

Take back your life! Start honoring your preferences, no matter how small they seem. Even if you don’t know what you prefer, pretend you do, and make a decision. You’ll be more keenly aware of whether that decision made you happy or not and you will learn your preferences!

Commit to this new belief: You deserve to have everything exactly the way you want it. Make it a priority to begin to know your wants and desires. Start simple by making a list of things you want to do and things you want to have. Keep writing until you find some of your core values, such as wanting to have loving relationships, to make a difference in your world or to be financially secure.

Think of what you love to do with your time. Write down several things that you love to do, and then make a list of all the ways you can think of to be making a living doing those things. Create a detailed description of the vision you have for your ideal life. Don’t limit yourself. Dream as big as you possibly can from your perspective right now.

In detail, what is going on in the financial area of your life? How much money do you make? How much do you have in savings and investments? What about your real estate? What kind of house or houses do you own? Create detailed visions of all the major areas of your life, your ideal career, your recreation time, your ideal body and physical health, your relationships with family and friends, your spiritual life, and the community in which you live. Create and write down your ideal vision for each area and review it on a daily basis.

All you have to do at this point is clarify your vision to yourself. Don’t worry about how it will happen right now. Once you have a clear picture of what you want going through your mind, the steps and opportunities to get it will appear. When you have completed your ideal vision of your life, share it with a supportive friend. Don’t let anyone talk you out of it! More than likely, they want the same thing for themselves but believe it’s impossible. Deciding what you want is the first step to getting what you want. Don’t put off creating your vision!
